Mike’s Studio

Mike Wedge’s studio didn’t begin as a plan; it grew organically from years of collecting what the ocean leaves behind. Long walks along the Yarmouth shore with his dogs often ended with an armful of weathered boards and forgotten fragments. Add to that the occasional stop at the local dump or a lucky roadside find, and over time, a quiet inventory of salvaged materials began to take shape with each piece waiting for a second life.

As the collection grew, so did a vision for The Shed. Mike constructed the space by hand, letting intuition guide the process. The result is more than just a workspace. It’s an extension of his artistic practice. Every beam and surface reflects the same raw, textured sensibility found in his work.

The Shed stands as a kind of living sculpture, shaped by both necessity and creativity. It is at once rugged and intentional, a place where found materials are not just used, but honoured. Over time, it has become Wedge’s sanctuary, a space grounded in solitude, rhythm, and routine.

Here, with a cigar in one hand, a cup of coffee in the other and his dogs close by, Wedge settles into the quiet focus of making. The ocean is never far—its presence felt in the materials, the light and the steady pull of the tide just beyond the door.
